Two long-standing statewide events are being combined to create the newly named West Virginia Leadership Summit at the Waterfront Place Hotel in Morgantown, WV on April 18th and 19th. This premiere Leadership Summit combines the highly successful WV Leadership Conference, hosted for 10 years by the West Virginia Roundtable, and Generation West Virginia’s equally successful 5-year old Young Leaders’ Conference.
“Together, the West Virginia Roundtable and Generation West Virginia are presenting this “Summit” on leadership, which will focus on developing and refining leadership skills to enable both established and young leaders to take our state into a successful future,” notes Paul Arbogast, president of the West Virginia Roundtable. He adds, “For almost a decade, the West Virginia Roundtable has offered a statewide leadership conference and we are excited and energized by our partnership with Generation West Virginia to launch the WV Leadership Summit.”
The West Virginia Leadership Summit features keynote speaker William C. Taylor, co-founder and founding editor of Fast Company magazine, co-author of the 2006 book, Mavericks at Work, and author of the 2011 book, Practically Radical: Not-So-Crazy Ways to Transform Your Company, Shake Up Your Industry, and Challenge Yourself. In addition, to William Taylor, the West Virginia Leadership Summit has invited established leaders of business, industry, government, education, private enterprise, and philanthropy such as West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin; Susan Brewer, CEO of the Steptoe & Johnson law firm; William “Pat” Getty, president of the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation; Kim Knopf, President/CEO of Innovative Mattress Solutions; Henry Harmon, President/CEO/Chairman of Triana Energy, among many others. The Summit will include a new series of workshop sessions in the afternoon designed for interactive, hands-on learning.
“Generation West Virginia is committed to cultivating and engaging young talent (those 21 to 45 years of age) in the Mountain State and a key part of that is providing leadership opportunities for young leaders,” says Paul D. Daugherty, chair and co-founder of Generation West Virginia. “West Virginia is positioning itself for a great future, but we need to prepare our young and established leaders with the tools and collaborative leadership abilities to take our state to the next level. This Summit is a major step in taking our state into its golden age.”
United Bank is the title sponsor of this year’s Summit, which will begin with an evening reception event held at Morgantown’s Waterfront Place Hotel on April 18th and a full day conference on the 19th.
As with prior conferences, current and future West Virginia business, government, education, and non-profit leaders will gather to focus on leadership obstacles, opportunities and skill development. This year’s Summit offers you the chance to:
- Hear and discuss traits that make a good leader great
- Learn how to build and manage the best possible team
- Discuss how to lead through difficult times
Panels comprised of several West Virginia business, education, non-profit and political leaders will discuss leadership roles as we bridge the gap between the established and young generations focusing on the areas of: entrepreneurship, civic engagement and mentorship.
Sponsors of this year’s Summit are Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love LLP, Charles Ryan Associates, Chesapeake Energy, Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP, Jackson Kelly PLLC, The State Journal, Steptoe & Johnson PLLC, United Bank and West Virginia University.
